A healthy diet should be personalized, focusing on fresh vegetarian foods, limited processed meals, and appreciation for nature’s nourishment.
There is old proverb in India: Food is medicine and medicine is food. And it holds true for cancer to the extent that now scientists are contemplating to treat cancer with diet and life style modifications. No single study has demonstrated cure for cancer, but translational studies have clearly demonstrated that our Genes are seeds. Our internal milieu is our terrain/environment. OUR DIET, OUR LIFESTYLE IS MANURE. PROVIDE RIGHT KIND OF MANURE TO CHANGE THE ENVIRONMENT. REST WILL OCCUR AS YOU WANT. Compare a potted plant to plant growing on earth. Potted plant is constricted in terms of manure, space. We can only grow dwarf of Baniyan tree in pot. In same way, our body reacts to everything we do, maybe it is air we breathe, maybe diet we take, may be type of exercise we do, may be the way we react to external stimuli.
Food is the building block of the body. No single diet is enough for everyone. We are unique as are fingerprints. As no two human beings have same genetic material, similarly same diet cannot be prescribed to two persons. But scientific studies have demonstrated certain principles which need to be followed. Elbert Einstein wrote that nothing will benefit Human health or increase the chances for survival of life on earth as the evolution to the Vegetarian diet. So, first and foremost is to be vegetarian. Human intestine unlike that of carnivorous animals is long (32 feet). Non vegetarian food gets putrefied and leads to formation of chemicals which helps in cancer cells to grow. Moreover, proteins in meat are hard to digest by us. Second principle is to have to consume 50% of food as raw and fresh. Many vitamins and enzymes are destroyed when food is cooked. Raw fruits and vegetables provide roughage there by help us in avoiding constipation. Third principle is to avoid packaged and cold storage food. It is almost equivalent to dead food except for the oil which is of no nutritive value.
Fourth principle is to avoid eating and heating food in canned or plastic containers, as these contain bisphenol A (BPA), a potent xenoestrogen that tends to accumulate in fat and changes the hormonal milieu of our body. Fifth principle is to avoid dairy products coming from farm animals fed on corn and soya. Sixth factor is avoid eating refined flour and white sugar as they create oncometabolite environment in the body favoring cancer cell growth. Research has shown that one should try to maintain alkaline pH of the body rather than acidic. Seventh is to exercise regularly and get involved in mediation. Eight is to take onion and garlic as medicine and not as an adjunct to food. Ninth is to include some herbs and spices as a part of anticancer regime i.e use rosemary, thyme, orgeno, basil, mint, cranberries, turmeric on regular basis.
Final is to inculcate the attitude of gratitude towards everything including mother earth, water, air, space, trees, fruits. They are the forces which are part and partial of our being. As within, as without. Whole cosmos is present in us although in very subtle way. Individuality and independence are the words coined by human beings otherwise we are dependent on all of the things in this planet.
